Cauliflower is a real “powerhouse” vegetable rich in fiber and vitamins B, C and K. It also consists of, in smaller amounts, elements such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. Cauliflower comes in several colors (white, orange, green, and purple), white being the most common of them all.

Meals that include cauliflower can benefit your health in numerous ways. If you haven’t tried cooking with this fantastic vegetable before, you should definitely try to recreate a few of these stunning recipes. You will be very pleasantly surprised by how dreamy cauliflower can taste and how easy it is to prepare.

Recipe No. 1: Creamy cauliflower and potato soup

Ingredients you will need:

● 1 large cauliflower head
● 2 medium-sized potatoes
● ½ cup of leek
● ½ cup of white onion
● 6 garlic cloves
● 1 cup of chicken broth
● 3 cups of milk
● 1 cup of heavy cream

Grab a large saucepan and mix the cauliflower, potatoes, leek, garlic, and onion (after chopping them into pieces first). Add milk, cream, and broth to the mix. The ingredients should simmer until the veggies are soft, no more than around 20 minutes. Take the pan off the heat and try the mixture for taste. Season with salt and white pepper.

Use a blender to make the mixture completely smooth, then bring the pan back on the heat. Let it simmer until warm, and your delicious soup is ready to go.

Recipe No. 2: Cauliflower macaroni and cheese

Ingredients you will need:

● 2 cups of cauliflower
● 3 cups of broccoli florets
● 1-½ cups of macaroni
● 3 large carrots
● 2 celery ribs
● 1 tablespoon of butter
● 1 onion
● ¼ cup of flour
● 1 cup of milk
● 1 cup of chicken broth
● 3 cups of shredded cheddar
● 1 tablespoon of mustard

Slice and chop broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery, and onion. Excluding the onion, add the mixture in a stockpot along with macaroni. Cook for 5 minutes, drain and move to a greased baking dish.

In another pan, heat butter and fry the onion until it becomes soft. Stir in flour and slowly add in milk and broth while stirring. Mix and stir all the ingredient until the mixture is thick. Add cheddar, mustard, and salt and pepper.

Mix everything together and bake uncovered for about 20 minutes.

Recipe No. 3: Cauliflower “potato salad”

Ingredients you will need:

● 1 medium-sized cauliflower head
● 1 medium-sized carrot
● 4 green onions
● 2 hard-boiled eggs
● 1 celery rib
● ¼ cup of each: pitted green olives, sliced radishes, chopped dill pickle, mayonnaise
● 1 tablespoon of mustard

This is a combination that’s sure to make an excellent addition to any lunch spread. For a research paper writing service content contributor and gourmand Amanda Shore, this recipe is one of the best ways to use cauliflower.

Boil water in a large saucepan, add broken cauliflower and cook until it softens. Drain and rinse cauliflower, then dry it and mix it with chopped carrots, eggs, onions, celery, olives, radishes, and pickles in a large bowl.

Mix the other ingredients in another bowl, then add on top of the cauliflower mixture and refrigerate.

Recipe No. 4: Cauliflower rice with a touch of citrus

Ingredients you will need:

● 1 large cauliflower head
● 1 medium-sized yellow onion
● 1 garlic clove (minced)
● 1 tablespoon of olive oil
● 1 teaspoon of cumin
● 1 tablespoon of lime juice, freshly squeezed
● ½ of cilantro
● 1 smaller avocado (optional)

Chop onion, cilantro, and cauliflower (the latter must be processed until it’s in fine, rice-like pieces). Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat, then add onion, garlic, and cumin. Cook for 3 minutes, then add cauliflower. Cook while stirring for the next 5 to 6 minutes.

Try the mixture for taste and season with salt and pepper. After removing the pan from heat, add some lime juice and cilantro. Mix thoroughly and garnish with avocado.

Recipe No. 5: Cauliflower chicken casserole

Ingredients you will need:

● 1 small cauliflower head
● 1 bunch broccoli
● 1 large onion
● 2 medium-size carrots
● 1 cup of chicken broth
● 2 pounds of boneless chicken breasts
● ½ pounds of fresh mushrooms
● 4 ounces of cream cheese
● 2 tablespoons of olive oil
● 2 teaspoons of sage leaves (dry)
● 1 cup of shredded cheddar
● Cooked brown rice

Chop cauliflower, broccoli, onion, mushrooms, carrots, and chicken breasts and mix them in a large slow cooker. Whisk broth, cream cheese, sage, salt, pepper, and oil in a bowl and pour over the mixture in the cooker. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar and leave to slowly cook for 4-5 hours while covered.

After the veggies and chicken are tender, take the cooker off the heat and let it cool.

Conclusion

The benefits of including cauliflower in your diet are numerous. It can help reduce the risks of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and even colon and breast cancer, while it also helps prevent constipation and lowers blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

It’s great when excellent taste and health benefits go hand in hand. Knowing how much good it can do for your health and how easy it is to include cauliflower in delicious meals, who wouldn’t want to give these great recipes a try? Easy to prepare and even easier to eat, cauliflower should definitely become a steady ingredient in your kitchen.

How to make your own food cart treats for your parties

Parties are always a fun experience, not just for the host but also for the guests. Whether it’s a birthday or a different kind of occasion, preparation is always crucial. Of course, it’s about coming together with family or friends and celebrating life. But let us not forget that people also come for the food!

Food carts are not just for kids, you can also make a food cart for adults or the young at heart —and you don’t need to get an actual cart either! You can just set up a table nicely and make sure that the treats are enjoyable for everyone. Take note that doing it yourself will take time and effort so if you have the time and you’re ready to impress your guests with your food making expertise, here’s how to make your own food cart treats for your party:

Choose a Theme
The first thing to do is to choose a theme. This will help you come up with a menu where the flavors of the food can be planned to blend together perfectly. A theme will also help you put together decorations and garnishes that coincide with each other. Are you having a fairy princess party for your little girl? What about your teenager? Does he or she want a luau or galaxy themed party? Or maybe you could also host a Las Vegas or disco themed party for your friends. Whatever you choose, having a theme is really helpful in the initial stages of planning.

Choose the treats accordingly
If you’re putting up a party for your little boy or girl, make sure to serve his or her favorite treats. For example, you’re hosting a baseball themed birthday party for a boy. Popcorn, chips and hot dogs are common food items that you can serve. And if you’re doing one for your little princess, how about baking cupcakes and decorating it with colorful sparkly things? You can also make cookies in the shape of crowns or flowers and wings. Don’t serve vegetable bites if your kids that don’t eat them! Save that for the health-conscious adults. For children, it’s usually sweets and colorful things. Maybe you can have waffles, granola bars, and several baked goodies. Now, if you’re planning a party for adults, you can go crazy and a bit experimental. But don’t forget to also consider the taste of the majority of your guests. You can always go online and look for options if you’re not so sure.

Create a plan
Write down all the food items and recipes you need for your treats. You should also take note of what materials you’ll be needing to serve your food cart goodies. This list will come in handy when you do your grocery as well as help you create a schedule for when to actually start preparing the food.

Budget wisely
Another thing to think about when you prepare for a party is how much budget you’re willing to shell out. If you’re investing in good food for your cart then you have the liberty to serve more luxurious treats. But if you are on a tight budget, consider making the necessary adjustments on the food that you’re going to serve. Make sure to set aside enough budget for your decorations like toppings and other materials such as cups, plates, napkins, wrappers to be used for serving your treats.

Get busy in the kitchen
Once you have planned out your menu, it’s time to turn them into reality. Start baking or cooking everything you need the night before the party or earlier if needed. Deserts such as refrigerator cakes and chocolate molded treats will need some time to cool down before you can serve them.

Think of your proportions
Remember that food carts will have to serve a lot of people and there will probably be a lot of options. So make sure that your servings are bite-sized to leave room for other treats! Anyone who still wants more can always come back and get some more. Using salad cups or cupcake linings to portion the snacks is always a good technique when serving food cart treats. It helps you serve your food properly and it makes the food items visually appealing.

Be creative
Remember that baseball themed party? How about creating bite-sized hotdog sandwiches and mini popcorn bags for your food card? You can also serve chocolates in the shape of baseballs or biscuits decorated according to the theme. If you’re having an ice cream party, you can come up with various types of toppings such as candies, fruits, and different syrups that your guests will definitely enjoy!

So, now that you know how to make your own food cart treats, get to planning!

Restaurant Chef Job Description: What to Expect

Do you enjoy cooking meals for your friends and family? If you feel at home in the kitchen, a career as a restaurant chef might be for you. Let’s take a look at what a restaurant chef does and what skills you need to have to run the kitchen at a restaurant.

What Does a Restaurant Chef Do?
The two types of restaurant Chef are the executive chef and the sous chef. The executive chef is the head chef in charge. Their main responsibility is setting the menu. They have to curate a menu that fits the cuisine of the restaurant they work at. This involves understanding the tastes of their customers, as well as the restaurant’s budget.

The executive chef is also responsible for managing the kitchen. They delegate tasks to food prep staff and make sure their line cooks are cooking and plating food according to the standards they set.

The sous chef is the second in command. They basically have all the same responsibilities as the executive chef and do whatever they are told to do. When the executive chef isn’t there, the sous chef is in charge.

Both chefs are responsible for making sure every single dish is prepared to the same standard. This means making sure portion sizes stay consistent and that each meal is plated the same way every time. Consistency is crucial in making sure the customers have the same experience every time they come.
Another thing both types of restaurant chefs do is make sure all ingredients are fresh and properly stored. This means making sure all kitchen staff follows safety and cleanliness protocols, as well as checking freshness of all perishable foods.

What Skills Do I Need to Become a Restaurant Chef?
Obviously, the most important skill for a restaurant chef is the ability to cook a variety of dishes. Some chefs specialize in a certain cuisine, while others are able to cook meals in a variety of cuisines. If you really want to accelerate your career as a restaurant chef, your best bet is to get formal training.

A culinary school like Culinary Lab School will not only teach you how to make various dishes, but it will also teach you basic and advanced cooking techniques that will help you take your cooking to the next level.

Another skill restaurant chefs must possess is the ability to delegate tasks, as they are the manager of the kitchen. This requires good communication skills and the ability to manage conflict.

Finally, a restaurant chef has to have a high attention to detail. In the restaurant business, the details are what separates average from excellent, whether it be plating the food or keeping the kitchen perfectly organized.

What Kind of Work Environment Can I Expect as a Restaurant Chef?
The kitchen of a restaurant is a fast-paced work environment with little downtime. The ability to work quickly and switch tasks without sacrificing quality is required to succeed.

There is also a lot of pressure on the kitchen staff. Restaurant chefs have to make sure every dish is cooked exactly how it was ordered, and they have to get the food out as quickly as possible. The customer’s experience depends on it.

The equipment quality is really where the chefs work environment can differ. A Michelin-level restaurant kitchen most likely has all top-line industrial tools. A chef in a restaurant of a small town most likely has aging equipment and has to make due with what they have. Stadium kitchens are designed for cooking meals at a large scale, so there is much more space to work than a standard restaurant kitchen.

Now that you know more about the restaurant chef’s job description, you are able to decide if this a career worth pursuing. The best way to learn more about the career is to find an executive chef to speak to one-on-one.

There really is nothing like that first cup of coffee in the morning. You awake groggy to the sound of the alarm clock, pad as quietly as possible to the kitchen, and put on the coffee. By the time you are out of the shower, you can literally smell the caffeine wafting down the hall. As a coffee drinker, it is probably fairly safe to say that you have tried several different brands of beans. You have probably tried a variety of brewing options. Whatever the situation is, you probably know that each bean tastes different, but did you know that each brand of coffee can have a different effect on the body? What are the best brands of coffee available and which should you be consuming?

Kenyan AA Coffee Beans

When you hear someone talk about Kenyan coffee beans, you can rest assured that they are referring to some of the finest beans in the world. The effort and labor that it takes to produce such beans and be quite arduous. It is these intense growing procedures that make the bean one of the largest in the world. The AB bean comes close, but it is nowhere near the AA bean. These beans produce fruity notes with a winey acidity and syrupy body. This will be one of the sweetest and purest cups of coffee that you ever enjoy.

Kona Beans Hawaii

If you are a Hawaiian native there is a good chance that you have heard of Kona. In fact, it is the largest Hawaiian island. Coffee doesn’t just grow here. It thrives here thanks to the tropical climate in conjunction with the perfect mixture of rain, sun, and fertile soil. This coffee is without a doubt delicious and can provide a number of health benefits, but you will end up paying top dollar for it. In addition to this, you might find that the supplies are limited. The Buddhas Cup Kona Coffee offers a medium body with a low acidity that is richer and even smoother than almost any other bean out there.

Blue Mountain Coffee

Blue Mountain is a mountain located in Jamaica with high elevations. Not all of the coffee in the area comes from the Blue Mountain, but the beans that do are the best. Supply is extremely limited and right around eight percent of the town’s supply goes to Japan each year. Along with this, these are not your ordinary coffee beans. They require special attentiveness that makes labor intensive. However, it is their high elevation and exposure to volcanic soils that makes these beans so potent and delicious.

Peaberry Beans

Peaberry beans are totally unique as they are nothing more than a single, round coffee bean located inside a coffee cherry. Normally farmers will find as many as two beans in the cherry and each will be adjourned with a flat side. That is not the case with the Peaberry. The Peaberry will be the only seed inside the cherry and it will be shaped entirely different. In fact, they have a round shape as opposed to the one flat side.

Is Your Grocer the Best for You? How to Choose the Right Grocer

Fruits and vegetables are essential for a healthy life. We all have our special sources for grocery and we prefer them because of personal reasons. There are so many wholesale food suppliers Cape Town services but you can only trust and regularly buy from one. If you are new to this and looking for the best, there are certain guidelines that you have to follow in order to receive the best groceries. The factors that should guide you in choosing the right grocer include;

What they charge
The cost of everything is the first thing to consider. A good grocer should be one who can supply you with everything you regularly need in a month without having to overstretch your budget. We all know that fruits and vegetables are things that must be in a meal every day if healthy eating is what you aim to achieve. This means that whatever you spend on groceries should not make you not be able to afford other things in your house.

How fresh is their product?
Fruits and vegetables are only good for you when you get them at their freshest state. One mistake that some groceries do is to apply preservative in order for their products to look fresh for longer. The bad side of this is such fruits easily go bad when you store them in your house. Groceries normally have a short lifespan before they start to go bad. When you get them at their freshest state, you can store them for a couple of days before they rot. When you buy groceries that are not fresh, you have limited time and chances are they are likely to go bad before you actually eat them.

What do they stock
Groceries are fun when you don’t have to buy the same thing every time. A good grocer is one that has everything and can advise you which one to go for each time you want to shop. Fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins and minerals. For that reason, it is highly recommended that you eat each of every available one in a month. A grocer who only stocks a few types of fruits and vegetables is simply limiting you from accessing other essential nutrients for a healthy life.

How convenient
In a world where everybody is operating against time, a convenient grocer is what you need. The only way a grocer can become convenient is when they can allow you to place an order then they deliver for you. Getting time to go to the grocery store might be impossible if you have a tight schedule but it does not mean you don’t have to eat healthily.

Conclusion
Modern grocers understand that they need to be as convenient as possible not only to deliver the best products at your doorstep but also to your health. The best way to achieve this is by selling online through a website. If a grocer is not providing you with all the options from shopping to supply, you might want to find one that is.

Tuscan Beef Roll

2 pounds skirt steak, pounded flat to ¼” thickness
4 slices deli ham
½ pound Italian sausage
1 tablespoon minced garlic
handful of fresh sage leaves
salt and pepper

Pre-heat oven to 375ºF. Mix the garlic with the sausage, set aside. Season both sides of the skirt steak with salt and pepper. Lay the skirt steak flat on a cutting board. Cover the steak with a layer of ham. Cover the ham with a layer of sausage. Press down lightly to compress. Starting at the bottom of the skirt steak, roll it up tightly, making sure the grain of the meat is running horizontally. Use toothpicks to secure the steak roll. Heat the oil in a deep sided sauté pan over medium-high heat. Sear the steak roll on all sides and place into hot oven. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until sausage stuffing is cooked through. Remove from oven and let rest 10 minutes before slicing.

Fabio’s Pancake

1 cup pancake mix (I use Bob’s Red Mill Buttermilk Pancake and Waffle Mix)
¾ cup cream
1 egg
1 tablespoon melted butter
2 tablespoons chopped pecans
1 tablespoon chilled butter, cut into four cubes
a handful of fresh blueberries
1 banana, sliced into ½” rounds
Maple syrup to finish

In a mixing bowl, beat the egg with the cream and melted butter. Slowly sprinkle in small amounts of the pancake mix, whisking in each addition to prevent lumps. Stir in the pecans and set aside. Melt one cube of butter into non-stick skillet over medium heat. Ladle a scoop of the pancake batter into the hot skillet. As the batter begins to firm, press a couple blueberries and banana slices into the pancake. When the edges begin to turn golden brown and bubbles begin to form, flip the pancake. Continue cooking until brown. Finish with a drizzle of maple syrup. ENJOY!
